Tis’ the season… for Airplane Cookies!

Believe it or not, December is here… and Christmas is just around the corner. And it is the one time of the year, I bake cookies!  At least the last 3-4 years, since I got my airplane cookie cutters 🙂

Each year, I try a new recipe. This year’s recipe was adapted from here.

3 1/4 cup  flour
1 cup brown sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp kosher salt
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp cardamon powder
1 tsp rose essence
1 egg
1/2 cup butter (1 stick)
1/2 cup sour cream

In a large bowl mix flour, baking soda, baking powder, nutmeg, salt and cardamon powder. In a separate bowl, whisk together sugar, egg, butter, sour cream and essence.

Mix dry and wet ingredients and roll into a ball. Refrigerate for 3-4 hours.

Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees F.

Roll out the cookie dough into a ball of 1/4 in thickness. Use desired cookie cutter and create fun holiday spirit cookies.

Rosemary Breadsticks

Mediterranean in May

I used part of the Big Pizza Dough to make this… I made them as an accompaniment to the Stuffed Tomato. The Pizza was a failure, but the bread-sticks turned out fine. Point to note, I made the bread-sticks on the day, I prepared the dough, where as I froze and thawed the dough to try the pizza. Must have done something wrong!

1/4 Big Pizza Dough
1-2 tbsp cup olive oil
1-2 tsp  fresh chopped Rosemary
Kosher salt

Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.

Roll out the amount of pizza dough you want to use into a roll and twist. Layout the strip onto baking pan. Brush with oil, rosemary, and salt.

Bake until the breadsticks are golden, about 15 minutes.

Cherry Cake

Cherries are my absolute favorite. I always grab a bag each time I am in a grocery this time of the year. Although this year, they have been too expensive at $7.99 a pound. More recently they have come down to $3.99 a pound that I dared to grab some. Although, if memory serves, by now they would have been $.99 a pound out in California!

They are a delicious snack to pack for that afternoon sanck. Sweet and refreshing.

This time I stayed true to the recipe…. You can find it here.

But I bet, you can use some whole wheat or other whole grain flour.. to make a healthier version,
