Bhel: A little of this and a little of that


1 bowl Poha (puffed rice) 
1 cup Sev
1/4 Potato (boiled & peeled)
1/2 onion (chopped)
1/2 medium tomato (chopped)
1-2 tbsp tamarind chutney
1-2 tbsp mint chutney
Optional: grated carrot or beets

In a bowl mix the poha, sev with a touch of salt, sugar and paprika. Toss in the chopped onions, tomatoes and diced potato. Add the mint chutney and tamarind chutney. Mix well and serve immediately.

Enjoy as an afternoon snack on a lazy Sunday afternoon with some chai 🙂

  1. The recipes here are pretty good!

    Here’s one – making healthier granola –
    Ingredients: quick cooking oats, 1 tbsp coconut, 1 cup almonds, vegetable oil, honey, cinnamon, 1 pinch salt; optional – other nuts, crispy rice, butter (1 tsp), sesame seeds;
    in a sauce pan, toast the sesame seeds and almonds, add oil and fry some more till these are golden brown, add the coconut, cinnamon powder and fry all this for a minute or two (add more nuts if you so desire). Then add oats to these (quantity? – the oats should be coated lightly), fry all this on low heat for 4-5 minutes, add honey (till all this is coated lightly) and the pinch of salt. Allow this to stay on low heat for 5-10 minutes with lid closed. Turn off heat – leave the sauce pan on the stove with lid on. Once it cools down – it is ready to eat. If you like this more crispy – put it in the oven at 300 deg for about 15 minutes (spread on a pan).
